While many just start designing and styling their home on the fly, it is always good to have a plan, and even better to know some interior design tips to help bring this plan into motion. We’ve written this short guide to help you on your initial foray into designing your home interior, with tips many people wish they knew before they had started.

Stick to What You Love
Your home is your space, don’t make decisions based on what’s trendy this year or what’s going out of style soon. Trends don’t last, but your taste will always be with you. Display what you love, what has meaning to you – pieces that were difficult to get, family heirlooms, or just anything you fell in love with when you saw it. Love your space, and the room will love you in return by positively impacting your mood.

Natural Light is your Friend
If there is an opportunity to open up your space and include a window, don’t doubt it! Art is beautiful, but a view beats it by making your room look more open and by changing daily. Of course, sunlight will also enhance the true colors of your chosen furniture. Still, natural light is your friend mainly because it increases your serotonin, which will uplift your mood and be more productive.

Measure Correctly
Sizing is vital in a space, you need to make the most out of your room, and one of the most impactful ways is with a steel tape measure. From rugs, curtains, mirrors – anything you wish to add, make sure you measured your space first. Then measure the items so you’re always sure.
TIP: play it safe by seeing how it will look by making the shapes with tape and sticking it on the floor before committing.

Only Invest in Timeless Pieces
Invest in the dining table that will create the perfect space for all the lovely conversations that take place in your home. Choose those pieces that your kids will want to you pass down to them. Keep it simple when choosing those timeless pieces and let the memories be the ones that make the piece valuable.

Plants
Add a beautiful plant if you want to add a little bit of freshness to your space. Each plant has its uniqueness, just like you. Taking care of a plant’s beauty will take care of your well-being. There’s a variety of plants. It’s just a matter of looking for the right one for you and your space.

Choose your Color Palette
There are a million ways in which colors can combine, but color palettes work by making the space look cohesive and others that don’t. The right color palette will be your guide when looking for the elements that will make it come to life in your space.

Take your Time
Don’t rush into a buy, don’t feel pressured to finish up a room, wait for the perfect piece that will complete your space, and that way, you will love the elements that make up your space even more.
